RCMP respond to 'serious incident' at Air North complex in Whitehorse

Police offered few details in a news release issued just before 2 p.m. Thursday, only stating officers were on-scene "in the area of Condor Road" and asking "everyone to stay away from the area."

The Yukon RCMPrespondedto a"serious incident" at Air North's complexin Whitehorse Thursday.

Police offered few details in a news release issued just before 2 p.m., only stating officers were on-scene "in the area of Condor Road" and asking "everyone to stay away from the area."

Another police press release issued Thursday evening said a "serious incident" occurred and that police remain on-scene, but reiterated that the situation was "contained" and that there was no risk to the public.

A police spokesperson would not comment on the nature of the incident, or where exactly it had happened.

However, aCBC reporter who went to the scene early Thursday afternoon saw an RCMP SUV parked outsidea hangar at the Air North complex at150 Condor Rd.,which is also home to Air North subsidiary Chieftain Energy.

A post on Chieftain Energy's Facebook page at 5 p.m. said its officewould be closed Friday and would reopen Monday.

In an email, Air Northmarketing and communications spokesperson Amy Ryder confirmed there was an "incident near Air North's facility" and that it was an "RCMP matter," but said no employees had been harmed.

Operations at the nearby Whitehorse airport have not been impacted, according to police.
