The agency is advising people to throw out the recalled products:Quinoa Granola Bars Chocolate Nut Medley andQuinoa Granola Bars Yogurt, Fruit & Nut.

Quaker Canada,a business unit of PepsiCo Canada, said the bars were distributed to a number ofLongo's stores, drug stores and pharmacies across Ontario. The companysaid the products contained sunflower kernels that may have been contaminated.

High-riskgroups like pregnant women, elders, and people with weakened immune systems should seek medicalattention if they think they may be infected.

Although infected pregnant women may experience only mild, flu-like symptoms, the infection can cause premature delivery, infection of the newborn, or even stillbirth, says the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.

"In severe cases of illness, people may die," the agency's food recall states.

The symptoms of a Listeria infection include:

  • vomiting
  • nausea
  • fever
