RCMP officer stabbed while arresting 18-year-old Nunavut man for waving gun

An RCMP officer was stabbed in Cambridge Bay, Nunavut, Sunday night after responding to a report of a man yelling and waving a firearm, which turned out to be a pellet gun.

Member medevaced to Yellowknife and in stable condition; charges pending against suspect

An RCMP officer was stabbed in Cambridge Bay, Nunavut, Sunday night after responding to a report of a man yelling and waving a gun.

According to a news release, RCMP received a call at about 11:56 p.m. that the 18-year-old was outside waving a firearm.

RCMP members determined that the firearm was actually a pellet gun.

The statement says the suspect ran into a home, while RCMP members pursued him.

During the arrest, the officer was stabbed. RCMP say the member was medevaced to Yellowknife for treatment and is reported to be in stable condition.

The suspect is being held in custody.

RCMP say charges are pending.
