Stephen Harper to visit Whitehorse Friday, local association confirms

Stephen Harper will be in Whitehorse on Friday morning to make an announcement, confirms the Yukon Conservative Association.

Conservative leader has already made northern campaign stops in Iqaluit and Hay River, N.W.T.

Conservative leaderStephen Harper will be in Whitehorse on Friday morning to make an announcement, confirmed Pat McInroy, president of the Yukon Conservative Association.

Harper will also be campaigning for incumbentand Conservative candidateRyan Leef, whowas elected by a narrow margin in the 2011 election.

Leef's campaign manager, Darren Parsons, says details about Harper's visit to Yukon are still vague buthe says it's "pretty darn cool" for a sitting prime minister to visit the territory during an election campaign.

Jean Chrtien, whocame to the Yukon during the 2000 federal campaign, was the last.

Harper has already made northern campaign stops in Iqaluit and Hay River, N.W.T.

Liberal leader Justin Trudeau visited Yellowknife, Inuvik and Iqaluit in Januaryand NDP leader Tom Mulcair visited Whitehorse in March 2014 andIqaluitin September of that year.
