Schmidt convicted of drunk driving

A Whitehorse man, Michael Schmidt, has been convicted of two counts of impaired driving causing bodily harm.

A Whitehorse man has been convicted of two counts of impaired driving causing bodily harm.

Michael Schmidt, 30, was charged after a crash almost two years ago.

Schmidt and two friends, Jessica Frotten and Michael Sanderson,were driving to Haines Junction when his car left the road.Both passengers were hurt. A severe spinal injury left Frotten paralyzed.

Yukon Supreme Court justice Ron Veale convicted Schmidt of impaired driving causing bodily harm to both passengers.

He acquitted Schmidt on charges of dangerous driving and driving with a blood-alcohol content over the legal limit.

Schmidt will be sentenced early in the new year.
