Iqaluit woman sentenced for pitbull attack

Saata Koochiajuke pleaded guilty to seven charges including aggravated assault and assault with a weapon stemming from separate incidents earlier this summer involving her dog.

Given 16 months in jail after pleading guilty to charges

An Iqaluit woman who used her pitbull as a weaponto attack two people in separate incidents has been sentenced to 16 months in jail.

Saata Koochiajuke pleaded guilty to seven charges including aggravated assault and assault with a weapon stemming from separate incidents earlier this summer involving her dog.

Koochiajuke was arrested aftershe released her dog to attack another woman. The 29-year-old victim was badly mauled, and was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Koochiajuke's dogalso attacked a cab driver.

Koochiajuke was given a 16-month sentence, followed by two years of probation.
