Taltson power plant back online after wildfire shutdown

N.W.T's Taltson hydroelectric power plant is back online but Fort Resolution, Fort Smith and Hay River remain on diesel-generated power until transmission lines can be re-energized.
A wildfire burning one kilometre from the Taltson hydro plant in N.W.T.'s South Slave region was the reason for the plant's shutdown on Sunday. The plant has since been brought back online, but communities on the Taltson grid are still on backup diesel plants. (NWT Fire)

N.W.T'sTaltson hydroelectric power plant is back online but Fort Resolution, Fort Smith and Hay River remain on diesel-generated power until the transmission lines can be re-energized.

The Northwest Territories Power Corporation shut down the Taltson plant around 6:30 p.m. Sunday because a forest firewas approaching power transmission lines.

The power corporation says it's not clear when the communities will be back on hydro power.

The corporation needs the OK from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources to check the power lines before they can be re-energized.
