Mushers in the Yukon Quest are finding the trail into Dawson City tough sledding.

Lone Yukon racer 11th among 15 mushers left in race

Mushers in the Yukon Quest are finding the trail into Dawson City tough-sledding.

All have mentioned how rough they've found the section ofthe Yukon River between Eagle, Alaska and Dawson City..

Cody Strathecalled it a "mean river" when he arrived in Dawson, Wednesday night.

"Mostly ice, mostly bare ice and rock," said the Fairbanks musher. "[I've] gone through two sets of runner plastic. They've just gotten torn off by rocks. It's rough, it's a trail, it's the Yukon Quest, that's what it's supposed to be."

The three front runners were on the trail again Thursday after a 36 hour layover in Dawson City.

The winner could cross the finish line, north of Whitehorse, as early as Sunday night or early Monday morning.

The only Yukoner left in the race is Dawson City resident Brian Wilmshurst.

He is currently in 11thplace among the 15 mushers still in the race.
