Whitehorse approves $500K tax rebate for builder

Whitehorse city councillors have approved a major development incentive for a downtown builder.

The incentive package is the largest the city has negotiated to date

A company called 535756 Yukon Inc. is building a four-storey building on 303 Alexander St. It will include three floors of government offices, six penthouse apartments and underground parking.

Owners of a mixed-use office building going up at 303 Alexander St.will get up to $500,000in tax rebates over the next 10 years.The agreement includes major improvements to the city-owned boulevard along Alexander Street.

The four-storey building will include underground parking, threefloors of government officesand six condominium units.

The half-a-million dollar incentive package is the maximum allowed under the policy and the largest the city has negotiated since itwas implemented in 2011.
