Yukon man fined, banned from hunting for 1 year after killing coyote

AWhitehorse-area man has been fined and banned from hunting for a year after shooting a coyote in his neighbourhood.

Michael Kent shot the animal this winter in the Golden Horn subdivision.

He pleaded guilty in Yukon Territorial Court to charges of careless use of an illegal firearm and hunting within a kilometre of an occupied residence.

Kent's fine is a $2,500 contribution to the Turn in Poachers fund.

He's not eligible for a hunting licence until he hascompleted the Yukon government's hunter education and ethics development course.

Kent must also forfeit the hide of the coyote he killed.
