Whitehorse Motors charged with sending waste oil down city drains

A Whitehorse garage and auto dealer is facing nine environmental charges, related to its disposal ofoil.

Environment Yukon alleges Whitehorse Motors waspumpingwaste oil down city storm drains, between June 2015 and June 2016. The charges don't specify the amount of oil involved.

In a statement, Whitehorse Motors says it is taking measures to "rectify the situation", and says there is no further "leakage" occurring.

The statement calls it a drainage issue "related to waste water in our Shop sump."

The business has also begun its own investigation, and updated and revised its policies. It is also working to provide more training to staff.

"We will continue with environmental clean-up and monitoring to ensure this does not happen again," the statement reads.

Yukon government officials would not comment on the case, saying it's before the courts.
