Whitehorse skiers rescued after B.C. avalanche

Three skiers from Whitehorse were rescued after getting caught in an avalanche Sunday near Shames Mountain in Terrace, B.C.

Three skiers from Whitehorse were rescued after getting caught in an avalanche Sunday near Shames Mountain in Terrace, B.C.

Const. Angela Rabut, with the Terrace RCMP Detachment, says police were notified when an emergency beacon was sent out. Rabut says the trio was skiing out of bounds when the avalanche buried them in about two metres of snow.

She says a group of nearby skiers came to their rescue.

"The three that were buried were very lucky. Nobody suffered any injuries; it was a really good thing in the end. There was a helicopter in the area that was able to assist in getting them off the mountain quickly," said Rabut.

Rabut says the skiers were in the back country area of Shames Mountain.
