Yukon environment officials are warning Yukoners to be extra careful with their pets as it's thetime of year when wolves and coyotes may findcats and dogs to be easy prey.

Environment officials say it happens every winter in most rural communities and more recently in rural neighbourhoods around Whitehorse.

Teslin residents report two dogs were killed by wolves just before Christmas. One was taken in broad daylight while tied in a yard.

"To reduce the chances of your pet being killed, don't allow the animal to run free unsupervisedand avoid leaving the animal tied up where it may be vulnerable to attack," says conservation officer Kris Gustafson.
