Woman medevaced after Monday night Alaska Highway crash

A woman was in critical condition following a collision on the Alaska Highway in Whitehorse during Monday rush hour.

A woman was in critical condition following a collision on the Alaska Highway during Monday rush hour.

Whitehorse RCMP say the collision happened near the intersection with Sumanik Drive, at around 5:15 p.m.

Witnesses told police a Saturn, travelling south on the highway, hit the driver's side of a Chevrolet mini-van. Both drivers are from the Whitehorse area.

Police say firefighters used the Jaws of Life to extricate the 49-year-old woman driving the mini-van.

Both drivers were taken to Whitehorse General Hospital. Police say themini-van driver was in critical condition andhas beenmedevaced to Vancouver.

Police did not know the condition of the 29-year-old driver of the Saturn.

Police say drugs and alcohol were nota factor in the crash.
