Jessica Frotten has known for weeks that she made the national ParapanAm team, but officials asked her to remain quiet until the official announcement was made. That announcement came on Friday.

"It's incredible to have the opportunity to represent Canada. It's a once in a lifetime thing but to get to do it in front of a home crowd is just icing on the cake." she said.

Frotten's strong performance at a meet in Switzerland earlier this year and five medals at the recent Canadian Track and Field Championships helped secure her position on the team.

The 27 year old will compete in 100, 400 and 800 metre wheelchair races at the Parapan Am Games which run August 7-15 in Toronto.

Frotten says these games will be the biggest she's ever competed in and she hopes a strong performance will land her a spot on the World's team this fall and ultimately a trip to the 2018 summer Olympic Games in Rio.

The Whitehorse resident became wheelchair bound following a motor vehicle accident in 2009.
