Yukon's minister of education is pledging to look at more space for early French Immersion programsafter aprogram at Whitehorse Elementary School filled up almost instantly last week, leaving 23 students on the waiting list.

Doug Graham says the issue is physical space. He says if a class can't be taught at Whitehorse Elementary, it could be taught somewhere else in Whitehorse.

"I was the minister that brought the program to the territory back in 1979, so I hate to see its growth limited in any way," he said.

"I think it's an excellent program and I think it's something we should be providing. I don't think we should be leaving out 23 children from kindergarten French immersion."

Graham says the education department will take about two weeks to review the matter.

This year, spaces in the early immersion kindergarten program were filled through a lottery system.
