Black Eyed Peas coming to Halifax park

The Black Eyed Peas will headline a two-day July concert on the Halifax Common.

The Black Eyed Peas will headline a two-day July concert on the Halifax Common, promoters announced Thursday.

The pop band will hit the stage Saturday night, July 24, along with Weezer and Classified.

"I've got a feeling today is going to be a good day, and I also got a feeling Saturday, July 24, is going to be a good, good night,"concert promoter Harold MacKay said at a news conference, quoting a line from a Black Eyed Peas song.

MacKay said the award-winning group will put on a great show, just as Paul McCartney and Kissdidlast summer, when they performed on the Common on consecutive weekends.

"I can tell you the equipment that the Black Eyed Peas will be bringing will be equal to the shows we saw last summer. So, you'll see quite a spectacle."

The bandsthat will playFriday, July 23, are to be announced in two weeks. MacKay said there will be more rock that night, and the acts will appeal to a different age group.

"It's rock and roll, and it's a little bit different demographics," he said.

At least two of the Friday night acts have never been to Halifax before, MacKay said, offering no other hints.

Basic tickets cost $189 and, unlike for past concerts in the park, there will be reserved seating in the front rows. The stage will go up on the North Park Street side of the Common.

After the concert, promoters plan to store the fencing and equipment in a corner of the park for two weeks until the next show.

A country musical festival is scheduled for the Common on Aug. 6-7.
