Cape Breton University (CBU) is creating a new job to focus on recruitment close to home.

The universitys president, David Wheeler, says a new domestic recruiter will make sure people locally are aware of what CBU has to offer.

There is no advantage to any family or any individual student going off [Cape Breton]Island, unless they're looking for a really specific program. What we know is that the education at CBU is second to none in the province, he said.

The new position comes on the heels of a marketing campaign where Saint Marys University posted a large billboard in Sydney last month that read "The Right Future is worth the drive to Halifax."

Wheeler says CBU is already very successful in attracting local high school graduates. He says the new recruiter will help promote CBU's programs, both at home and around the region.

CBU has about 3,000 students and one-third of the students come from other countries, such as China, Saudi Arabia and Korea.
