The search for a missing 29-year-old male diver in Digby County has been suspended, Nova Scotia RCMP said Sunday.

in an email, police said the multi-agency search for the diver, which included ground search and rescue efforts, and was being led by the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in Halifax, ended Saturday night.

The RCMP,now leading the search, saidit would not send its underwater recovery team into the water Sunday due to unfavourable conditions.

The incident is not considered to be suspicious, police said.

The diver, who was from the Meteghan area, was reported missing at around 7 p.m. Friday, the JRCC said on Saturday.

"My understanding is that he was on a dive ship and as he was coming to the surface something happened where he ended up back under the surface and then the search began," said Maj. Trevor Ackland.

Ships from the Canadian Coast Guard and a CH-149 Cormorant from 413 Search and Rescue Squadron participated in the search starting Friday night. The Digby fire department was also called to the scene.

A drone was used during the first night in an effort to find the diver.

On Saturday morning, theRCMP dive team arrived on the scene to begin an underwater search, said Ackland.

Private vessels had also been asked to aid in the search.
