Two people drowned in separate incidents on Nova Scotia's South Shore on Thursday afternoon, according to police.

Lunenburg County RCMP recovered the body of a 66-year-old man floating on a lake near Mahone Bay in the Martins River area around 3:30 p.m.

The man had been reported missing overnight and was last seen walking in the area of the Mahone Bay Water Reservoir around noon the day before.

Police say they do not suspect foul play and an autopsy is pending.

An 83-year-old woman died the same afternoon in the LaHave River.

Police say she was swimming with a friend in near the community of Pentz when she ran into trouble.

She was pulled from the water a short time later, but emergency responders were not able to revive her.
