Dutch Mason festival brings the blues to Truro

The 10th annual Dutch Mason Blues Festival is underway this weekend in Bible Hill, outside Truro.

Event organizer David DeWolfe says it started small 10 years ago but is now a three-day event.

"It's one big happy family. Everybody just loves to come and soak up the atmosphere and enjoy the whole weekend and make a lot of friends," he said.

This is the 10th year of the festival, which honours Dutch Mason, the Nova Scotia singer and guitaristknown as the Prime Minister of the Blues. He died in 2006.

This year's festival has some big names, including headliner James Cotton and Canadian blues rocker David Wilcox.

Young talents like P.E.I. native Christine Campbell are trying to make the most of playing on the big stage.

"It's a very big deal. The people taking the stage after me are all people I really look up to and I know how lucky I am to be opening for such amazing artists," Campbell said.

The festival is held at a campground next to the Truro Raceway.
