Marc Joseph Pellerin, escaped prisoner, recaptured in Truro

A New Brunswick prisoner who escaped custody while in Truro, N.S., on Friday has been recaptured, according to the RCMP.

A New Brunswick prisoner who escaped custody while in Truro, N.S., on Friday has been recaptured, according to the RCMP.

Marc Joseph Pellerin, 43,escaped when hewas being moved into a sheriff's van.

He was on his way from New Brunswick to Halifax for a court appearance. Pellerinoutran officers in Truro and escaped.

RCMP say he was recaptured Monday night as they responded to an intrusion alarm at Logan Drilling in Stewiacke, about 25 kilometres south of Truro.

Police had alsoreceived a report of suspicious activity in that area and of people trying to haul a car out of a ditch.

"A man was observed walking along the road in the general area. The police attempted to make contact with that man and when we did so he fled into the nearby field and woods," said RCMP Cst. Mark Skinner.

"A foot chase ensued with officers heading after the man and after a short foot pursuit the man was apprehended and it turned out to be Marc Joseph Pellerin."

Skinner said Pellerin will face further police action.

"We are certainly glad that we have caught him and [brought] him back to justice. In relation to this incident, he'll likely be facing a number of other charges, including break and enter and possession of stolen property."

Pellerin is scheduled to appear in Truro court sometime Tuesday.He'sfacing additional charges of break and enter and possession of stolen goods.

History of escape

Pellerin has a history of escaping police custody.

In May, Pellerin was arrested by Halifax Regional Police at a pawn shop on Windmill Road in Dartmouth, where he was tackled by the owner of the shop and police.

After he was arrested, Pellerin was taken to a police station. Upon arrival, Pellerin escaped from the vehicle and fled. The officer called for backup and chased Pellerin, who was soon apprehended by police.
