Flammable vapours behind fatal Dartmouth explosion

The explosion that killed a worker at a Dartmouth body shop earlier this month is being blamed on flammable vapours.

Fire officials said Tuesdaythey have completed their investigation into theMarch 13 fireand explosion at O'Regan's Kia dealership on Wyse Road.

They saidthe fire started when the vapours ignited, resulting in an explosion. Natural gas and propane have been ruled out as the cause of the blaze.

"The actual source of the ignition is not being released at this time and indeed that forms part of the ongoing investigation, which is led by the Nova ScotiaDepartment of Environment and Labour," said David Meldrum, with the Halifax fire service.

Kyle Hickey, 22, of Halifax, died in hospital the morning after the fire asa result of his injuries.

Hickey's jobhad been toprepare vehicles for paint and bodywork at the dealership, where he hadworked for less than one year.

Two otherpeople were taken to hospital for treatment and later released.
