Halifax Transit is boosting the frequency of ferry crossings during the evening to help move people across the harbour during the Big Lift.

The Angus L. Macdonald Bridge is now being closed to traffic between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m., Sundays through Thursdays, as work begins to replace aging parts of the structure.

The Halifax-Alderney ferry will now depart every 15 minutes between 6 p.m. and 11:45 p.m. on weekdays. It will also run every 30 minutes on Sundays between 6:30 a.m. and 11:45 p.m.

A shuttle bus service is also replacing bus routes that normally travel the bridge during the night, and will cross the MacKay Bridge.

The bike path and sidewalk on the Macdonald remains open 24 hours a day, but only until late June.
