Halifax doctor reprimanded for writing prescriptions for family

For the second time in less than a year, a Halifax doctor has been reprimanded by the governing body that oversees doctors in Nova Scotia.

Dr. William Vitale also found to have broke physician policy with botched immunizations

For the second time in less than a year, a Halifax doctor has been reprimanded by the governing body that oversees doctors in Nova Scotia.

The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia is reprimanding Dr. William Vitale for writing prescriptions for a member of his own family. That violates the college's policy on treating family members.

The college has ordering Vitale to undergo specialized ethics training in Toronto.

In November, Vitale was reprimanded for improperly administering vaccinations in the fall of 2013. The college found he was improperly mixing incompatiblevaccines in a single syringe. The incident was reported by a parent, who was concerned about how Vitale vaccinated their child.

At the time, Vitale was ordered to take additional specialized training and submit to an audit of his practice.
