The Category 3 hurricane was east of Florida Tuesday afternoon, and was expected to track up the Eastern Seaboard this week.

"After stalling over the Bahamas with devastating impacts, Dorian is moving again at 3 km/h," CBC meteorologst Ryan Snoddon said Tuesday afternoon.

He said the storm will pick up more speed later Tuesdayas it tracks north.

Dorian could be a post-tropical depression, a tropical storm or even a Category 1 hurricane when it moves into the Maritime region, likely Saturday into Sunday.

An incoming trough from the Great Lakes could make a big difference on Dorian's route when it approaches Atlantic Canada, Snoddon said.

Dorian unleashed massive flooding across the Bahamas on Monday, pummeling the islands with so much wind and water that authorities urged people to find floatation devices.

At least five deaths were blamed on the storm.
