Man on mobility scooter struck in crosswalk near Halifax Shopping Centre

Halifax Regional Police say a man on a mobility scooter was sent to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries Monday after he was struck by a pickup truck in a crosswalk.

Halifax Regional Police say a man on a mobility scooter was sent to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries Monday after he was struck by a pickup truck in a crosswalk.

The man was attempting to cross Mumford Road at a busy intersection near the Halifax Shopping Centre when he was hit around 3 p.m. local time.

Police said in an email thedriver of the pickup truck was issued a summary offence ticket forfailing to yield to a pedestrian at a walk light.

The man operating the scooter was taken to the Halifax Infirmaryby EHS.

Photos from the scene on Monday appeared to show the scooter partially under the pickup truck in the aftermath of the collision.

Police and EHS had a section of Mumford Road partially blocked off. The road has since reopened.
