No charges for Halifax Transit bus driver after woman struck and killed

Halifax Regional Police will not be laying charges or issuing any summary offence tickets in relation to the Oct. 31 death of a pedestrian who was attempting to catch up with a bus.

The driver of a bus that struck and killed a 24-year-old woman last month will not be charged, said Halifax Regional Police onTuesday.

On Oct. 31, at approximately 6:50 a.m. AT,police were called to a collision between abusand a pedestrianat South Park Street and Spring Garden Road in downtown Halifax.

Police said the pedestrian was trying to catch up to the Halifax Transit bus when she was hit.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

In a news release, policesaidthere would be no charges laid or summary offence tickets issued, adding that the investigation is now closed.

A spokesperson for theHalifax Regional Municipality previously told CBC News the city and Halifax Transit would be working with the police during the investigation,including offering up camera footage from the bus.
