Nova Scotia weekend weather includes sunny skies, warmer temperatures

Forecasters have been talking about a seemingly mythical "ridge of high pressure" all week the elusive one that will bring sunshine and warmth to Nova Scotia, and deliver us from the dark days of rain-drizzle-fog.

You wanted to believe it but you were afraid of the disappointment, making backup plans for the weekend "just in case."

Relax. You now have bigger issues to deal with: Where is the sunscreen and which storage box are the sandals in?

That ridge is already clearing skies to make way for more sunshine, but because we're still in that northerly flow, temperature values are still a little below seasonal in many areas.

The cool air, in combination with clear skies, means there is a risk of frost across the province as low-lying inland areas could dip down near 4 C overnight. That means you could be waking up to patchy frost.

The good news is that you'll finish the day in much more desirable conditions as the region switches into a more westerly flow.

Temperature values start to take a hike Saturday afternoon and, with over 15 hours of sunshine on the menu each day, this weekend you'll want to enjoy every minute of it.

Father's Day is shaping up to be the crown jewel of the weekend in terms of summer-like conditions.

Temperatures could get close to or even break record highs in some areas of the region that day, so it will be important to keep hydrated and slather on the sunscreen to protect yourself from those strong mid-June rays.
