RCMP investigate theft of 15 firearms from Colchester County home

Colchester County RCMP are investigating a break-in at a home outside of Stewiacke that netted numerous weapons.

Colchester County RCMPare investigating a break-in at a home outside of Stewiacke, N.S., that netted numerous weapons.

Police say the theft occurred in the daylight hoursFriday when someone pried open the door of the West St. Andrews home and broke into alocked gun cabinet located in a bedroom.

The supect or suspects took 15 firearms from the cabinet, including handguns and long guns. They also entered another bedroom in the residence where they took knives, a hatchet and a BB gun, RCMP said.

The break-in is estimated to have taken place between8:15 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

"It's a concern whenever firearms are stolen. In this case, they were being stored properly by the owner," said Cpl. Jennifer Clarke.

"It is hard to say what the intent is, but it isdefinitelya concern for us."
