Halifax Regional Police are cautioning the public to be extra vigilant about checking for mail following several reports on Wednesday of break-ins at community mailboxes boxes in Sambro and Ketch Harbour.

Police say both the individual and larger parcel slots were tampered with.

CBC News spoke to one resident who said they had $700 worth of Arbonne product stolen from aparcel slot.

With the increased mail volume that comes with the Christmas holidays, police say it's even more important that people pick up their mail on a regular basis and ensure their mailboxes are locked.

Police are asking citizens to contact them if they notice suspicious activity in or around community mailboxes.

People with information about the latest break-ins or who may have had their mailboxes tampered with are asked to call them at 902-490-5016. People can also contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online at www.crimestoppers.ns.ca.
