The student union at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in Halifax is upset at a decision made by the board of governors to close down a non-profit art gallery that features student work.

The decision to shut the Seeds Gallery was made at a board meeting last month, the student union said. But the student group said it was done without speaking with students and alumni who depend on the gallery.

Seeds was started by the student union, according to a news release, but control was turned over to the university in 2007.

Seeds is an invaluable part of the fine arts education NSCAD University is renownedfor around the world, Sarah Trower, president of of the student union said in a news release.

It is unacceptable that there has been no discussion with the community about its fate.

She wants the decision to close Seeds reversed, and accused NSCAD of harming the prospects of the gallery when it moved it to the Halifax Seaport.
