The Nova Scotia SPCA has its hands full with two litters of abandoned puppies.

A litter of ten newbornpuppies was found abandoned under a deck and brought to the Dartmouth location; another nine puppies and their mother were surrendered by their owner in Cape Breton.

In total, 19 puppies have been dropped off in the last week.

She was surrendered to the Cape Breton shelter and we brought her down here, said Sandra Flemming, the shelters director.

The Pick of the Litter society in Bedford is sheltering the deck litter. The bottle-fed puppies are just over one week old.

A wonderful Samaritan found them outside heard some noises, went to investigate, and found them. They were pretty cold at the time; theyd just been born, Flemming said.

Next, theyhead to the WOOF program, where prisoners train the pups. Theyre then adopted out.
