Halifax homicide linked to drugs

Halifax police say the man killed on Clifton Street Friday night was in his 30s and that the homicide was linked to drugs.

Police were called to anapparent double shootingin the city's north end at 8:40 p.m. They found the man dead, along with an injured second man, also in his 30s. The second man was taken to hospital and later released.

"Though we are in the early stages of the investigation, police dont believe this incident is random, as it is drug related," said Halifax Regional Police spokeswoman Lauren Leal.

The name of the dead man is being withheld until police notify his family. The medical examiner will perform an autopsy Sunday.

Lealsaid police are looking for two white men aged 20 to 30 who were seen fleeing toward St. Albans Street on foot. Both were wearingathletic clothing.

Leal saidpeople in the area were helping police with their investigation. She asked anyone with information to call police or Crime Stoppers.

If confirmed by the medical examiner,it would be the sixth homicide in Halifax in 2012. There were 10 homicides in the city at this point in 2011. Police say overall, violent crime is down 10 per cent this year compared to last year.
