Sydney SPCA looking for manager, again

The SPCA in Sydney is, again, without a permanent manager.

Jeff Dursi resigned on Oct. 1. He had been in the position since February 2013.

The SPCA has been through three managers in less than three years.

Elizabeth Murphy, CEO of the Nova Scotia SPCA, says the turnover in management does not reflect badly on the Cape Breton branch.

"I don't think its an indicator of anything. ... I manage 12 branches around the province. Its a very, very stressful position. So even in our staff, there is a certain level of change at the staff level because of all those pressures and those demands," she says.

Murphy says Dursi did a good job and the branch was well run.

"We went up there to do an audit. It is amazing the positive change that has happened at the Cape Breton branch. I was there for three days so I was able to meet a lot of people who came through the doors and I just have to say, staff and volunteers have done an amazing job up at that shelter because it is so clean and tidy. The animals are so well cared for. Its just phenomenal," she says.

Murphy says they will open the job for competition in the next couple of months.

The Sydney SPCA is undergoing a major expansion. Construction is about to begin on a $200,000 animal hospital.
