Sydney teen dies after crash on Highway 105

A teenaged girl hurt in a single-vehiclecrash on Highway 105 in Cape Breton Monday morninghas died from her injuries.

Police have identified heras Jillian Whelan, 16, from Sydney, N.S.

Around 3:40 Monday morning, RCMP Cape Breton Traffic Services responded to a serious crash onHighway 105 in Dalem Lake, just west of St. James Road.

Police say the car, heading east, went off the road onto the shoulder.The driver lost control, overcorrectingand crossing into the westbound lane, with the car finally rolling over in the ditch.

Whelan and the driver, a 17-year-old girl, were taken to hospital in Sydney by emergency services.

Whelan was then transported to hospital in Halifax by air ambulance.

Highway105 was closed for three hours while RCMP collision analysts examined the scene.

The accident is still under investigation.
