What's open and closed on Victoria Day in the Halifax area

As Nova Scotians mark what many consider to be the beginning of the summer season, here's a look at what will be open and closed on Victoria Day in the Halifax area.

Holiday is not a designated retail closing day in Nova Scotia

As Nova Scotians mark what many consider to be the beginning of the summer season, here's a look at what will be open and closed on Victoria Day in the Halifax area.

Although it is not a general holiday or a designated retail closing day, some services will not be available on Monday and others will operate with reduced hours.

Groceries

Most grocery stores, including Costco, Sobeys and Atlantic Superstore locations, will beopen regular hours.

Liquor and beer

NSLC stores will beopen.

Malls

  • Halifax Shopping Centre: Open 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Mic Mac Mall: Open 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • SunnysideMall: Open 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Bedford Place Mall: Open 9:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Park Lane Mall: 9:30 a.m. to 5p.m.
  • Scotia Square: Closed.

Transit

Halifax Transitbuses and the Alderneyferrywillrun on a holiday schedule Monday.The Woodside ferry will not be operating.

The Blue Nose Marathon also takes place May 19-21.OnSunday, there may besome route detoursto accommodate the runners in the marathon.

Parking

There is no charge at on-street parking meters on Monday. Motorists are reminded to abide by posted signage.

There will also be someparking banson Sunday for the Blue Nose Marathon.

Municipal services

Manycity-run facilities and community centreswill be closedMonday. All branches of the Halifax Public Libraries will be closed.

The 311 call centre will be closed, but urgent calls can still be reported. Customer service centres will also be closed.

Garbage collection

There will be no curbside collection of trash, recycling or compost on Monday.

The Otter Lake Waste Management Facility, the Halifax recycling facility and municipal composting facilities will also be closed on Monday.
