Man charged in stabbing incident in Weymouth

A Weymouth, N.S., man is facing several charges after allegedly stabbing another man and bringing a gun to a memorial gathering on Sunday.

Digby RCMP say they received several phone calls about a stabbing at a community centre in Weymouthon Sunday morning at about 1:45 a.m.

Police officers arrived on the scene and found that a memorial was being held at the centre on Highway 1whena man showed up, pointed a gun at people, then left and went to a nearby home.

When people from the memorial confronted the man outside the home, the man, a 24-year-old, stabbed another 24-year-old and went inside.

The stabbing victim, who is also from Weymouth,was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

RCMParrested the alleged perpetrator, who has been charged with:

  • Aggravated assault.
  • Possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
  • Possession of items to assist in the trafficking of a controlled substance.
  • Possession of property obtained by crime.
  • Careless use of a firearm.
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm.
  • Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized.
  • Possession of firearms while prohibited.
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle.
  • Failure to comply with conditions of a release order.

The man is in custody and is scheduled to appear inDigbyprovincial court on May 17.
