Worker dies at road construction site

A 50-year-old truck driver was killed Thursday when a steel plate struck him in the head.

A 50-year-oldtruck driverwas killed Thursday when a steel plate struck him in the head.

The accident happened on a small road off St. Margarets Bay Road, near Timberlea, just before 8 a.m. Nova Scotia RCMP identified the man as Kevin Dickson of Pockwock, N.S.

RCMP said an excavator was loading a large steel plate ontoa truck when the plate slipped and fell, hitting the driver.

The man died at the scene.

Provincial labour officials areinvestigating.

The contractor is building new roads for a development at the 3200 block of St. Margarets Bay Road. A department of labour spokesman said the man was employed by Kynock Resources Ltd.
