2 dead in Quebec head-on collision

Two men were killed in a head-on collision early Saturday morning near Luskville, Que., about 40 kilometres north of Ottawa.

Two men were killed in a head-on collision early Saturday morning just north of Ottawa.

Acar went out of control at about 2:40 a.m., crossed the centre median on Highway 148 and struck an oncoming vehicle, Quebec police said.

The drivers of both vehicles were killed in the crash.

According to an MRC des Collines-de-L'Outouais spokesperson police had been chasing the driver of a Mazda Protege that crossed the median, but broke off the pursuit because it was becoming too dangerous.

The driver continued to speed and a few minutes later lost control of his vehicle on Highway 148, just outside of Luskville, Que., about 40 kilometres north of Ottawa.

The driver of the car being sought by police, identified as Brandon Crawford, 20,of Shawville, Que., was ejected from the car.He was the sole occupant.

AnthonyMcColl from Gatineau, the 19-year-old driver of the other car, died immediately, according to police.

Four teenaged girls friends of McColl's sister who he was driving home from a party who were inhis Honda Civic, were injured.

The girls, ranging in age from 15 to 17, were seriously hurt, but police say the injuries are not life-threatening.

"We have in front of us two cars that are very badly damaged," the CBC's Louis Blouin reported from the crash scene. "It shows that the accident was very, very bad."

Hours later police were still on the scene. They say alcohol and excessive speed were factors in the crash.
