Girl, 16, arrested in MacLaren Street highrise death

Police have arrested a teen girl wanted in connection with the death of a 19-year-old man believed to have fallen 16 storeysfrom a MacLaren Street highrise earlier this month.

The 16-year-old girl turned herself in to police Friday morning and appeared in court in the afternoon, the Ottawa Police Service said in a media release.

The girl who cannot be named because of her age wasone of three suspects being soughtfollowing the May 15 death of Ahmad Afrah, whose body was found at the foot of an apartment complex at 415 MacLaren St.

She had been charged with manslaughter and aggravated assault before her arrest.

So havetwo other suspects: a 16-year-old boy and20-year-old Daniel Jean Charles, both of whom are stillwanted onCanada-wide warrants.

Afrah lived with his family in an apartment complex just a few streets away from where his body was discovered. Ottawa police have said it appears he either fell or jumped to his death.

Police have alreadycharged 29-year-old Liban Gurewith manslaughter and aggravated assault in Afrah's death.

Gurehas prior convictions for theft, unlawful possession of a credit card, and unlawful obstruction of a police officer from 2016 and a theft conviction from 2014, according to court records.

Afrah's death was the city's third homicide of 2017.
