Bloody metal bar found in south Ottawa, police seek help

Ottawa police want the publics help after finding a bloodstained metal bar in a wooded area in the citys south end.

Police say the bar was found on the west side of Cedarview Road about 300 metres north of Cambrian Road.

Sources tell CBC News the bar is believed to be linked to the homicide of Jagtar Gill, a Barrhaven woman found dead in her home in January.

Gurpreet Ronald, a 34-year-old married mother of two, has been charged with first-degree murder after Gill was found stabbed to death.

Gill, 43, was found dead by her husband and15-year-old daughter on Jan. 29 one day after she had hernia surgery, and also the day of her17thwedding anniversaryin the living room of her home at174BramblingWay.

A police source told CBC News DNA evidence was used to link Ronald to the homicide.

Now police believe this metal bar was used to strike Gill before she was stabbed, sources add.

None of the allegations have been proven in court.

Ronald lives on Towhee Place, one street over from the Gill family home. Sources said Ronald works for OC Transpowith Gill's husband,Bhupinderpal, and that Ronald and Bhupinderpalwere close.

Gill's death was Ottawa's first homicide of 2014.
