From Sept. 22 to Oct. 23, CBC Ottawa will visit the 23 electoral wards in the city of Ottawa to get the inside track on the issues people are talking about on the eve of the upcoming municipal election.

OnSeptember 26th the CBC Street talk team was in Bay Ward to hear directly from you what are the major issues in your ward? What could make your ward a better place to live?

Bay Ward is located in the West end of Ottawa, and includes Bayshore, Britannia Village, Carlingwood, Crystal Bay, Lakeview Park, Woodroffe, and Lincoln Heights. The wardis bordered by the 417 to the south, and the Ottawa River to the north. It extends as far east as Maitland Avenue and as far west as Riddell Drive.

It's quite a diverse ward about a third of the population are immigrants. Not to mention the Woodroffe-Lincoln Heighs community has the highest concentration of seniors in the city.

In the 2010 municipal election 51per cent of eligible voters turned out to vote- one of the highest rates in the city and above the city wide average of 44 per cent.

Mark Taylor, the incumbent, is running again. In 2010,Taylor beat Alex Cullen, who used to serve as councillor for the ward for more than a decade. Cullen is back this year and fighting to get his old seat back.

CBC Ottawa asked all the candidates running for city council to record a 1-minute pitch and tell voters why they think they're the best candidate for their ward. The pitches below are from those who participated in this project.
