Collenette remains coy on O-Train funding

The federal transport minister says money could be available for Ottawa's light rail transit system.

The federal transport minister says money could be available for Ottawa's light rail transit system.

However, David Collenette, is offering no specifics on the funding.

"Well, we've worked very closely with OC Transpo on the train in terms of safety because it's on a federally regulated right-of-way," says Collenette. "I've had many meetings with Mayor Chiarelli on this, and I suppose, its expansion is a candidate for some of the money that's been announced but that is a bit premature to go into that."

Collenette was speaking in Ottawa, at a meeting of the mayors of some of Canada's largest cities.

The mayors are also meeting with the Finance Minister Paul Martin, and the Deputy Prime Minister John Manley.

The mayors are trying to convince the federal government to come up with more money for infrastructure projects.
