City 'parted ways' with chief administrative officer after barely a year

Former Ottawa city councillor Mathieu Fleurywill no longer serve aschief administrative officer (CAO) for Cornwall, Ont., the city announcedin a news releaseWednesday.

"The City of Cornwall would like to inform that it has parted ways with Mr. Mathieu Fleuryas Chief Administrative Officer," according to the news release.

"Council would like to express our sincere gratitude to Mr. Fleury for all his work over the past year and his dedication to the City of Cornwall and wish him all the best in his future endeavours."

The city did not specify why Fleury is leaving the position after barely a year, or whose decision it was.

Fleuryrepresented the downtown wardof Rideau-Vanier on Ottawa city council for three termsfrom 2010 to 2022, when he did not seek re-election.

He went on to serve as interim executive director of J.W. MacIntosh Community Support Services, an organization inWilliamsburg, Ont., that provides housing and community support services.

In August2023, the City of Cornwall hired him for a five-year term as chief administrative officer.

On Tuesday, Cornwall city council held a closed-door meeting to discuss a single item: "Performance Evaluation Process."According to the agenda, the meeting was called to discuss "personal matters about an identifiable individual, including municipal or local board employees."

Tracey Bailey, Cornwall's treasurer and general manager of financial services, will serve as interim CAOuntil a permanent replacement is found, the city said.

Fleury has declined requests for an interview with CBC.
