Photo radar coming to Gatineau, Que., by mid-October

The City of Gatineau is set to introduce photo radar as part of a pilot project later this month and Ottawa drivers shouldn't expect to get away unscathed if they're caught on camera.

The City ofGatineau is set to introduce photo radar as part of a pilot projectlater this month and Ottawa drivers shouldn't expect to get away unscathed ifthey're caught on camera.

Starting Oct. 19, cameras will be installed at 21 spotsaround the city, as well as in school and construction zones.

Drivers won't see any warning signs, and those with Ontario license plates could be fined if the cameras catch themviolating local traffic laws, said Gatineau Police Chief Mario Harel.

"We'll be able to exchange information and data, to send tickets to car owners in other provinces," Harel said in French.

The pilot project will be reevaluated in early 2017. Money collected from the tickets will be "reinvested in aroad safety fund," said GatineauMayor Maxime Pednaud-Jobin.

"It's about keeping our citizens safe," Pednaud-Jobin said in French.
