Return depends on investigation: manager

In an email to CBC, arepresentative ofthe company thatmanages the highrise saidit's been working closely with the Red Cross and other agencies to findemergency housing for displaced residents, among other services.

"Our hearts and thoughts are with everyone affected by yesterday's tragic fire," wrote Q Residential'sLorne Stephenson.

Stephenson saidelevators will be out of service for the weekend to allow electrical components to "fully dry out."

Asked when residents on the third floor will be able to return, Stephensonsaid due to police "conducting an active criminal investigation, efforts to fully assess the affected units and make repairs will not be able to begin" until it's done.

School helping those displaced

Lesley Ford, a teacher at Gloucester High school, called the situation "heartbreaking" and said 30 families with students at the school have been affected by the fire.

She's helping coordinate efforts to funnel supplies to some of those families. People are asked to drop off food and local gift cards at the school's front office between 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. from Monday to Friday.

Kid-friendly supplies are most welcome because many of the families affected are large, she said.

"Some of the students came in yesterday and were shaken," she said. "We're humans and we have a big community, a diverse community, and when we take care of each other we make our community better."
