Human trafficking charges laid after violent assault in Sandy Hill

Three people are facing charges including one man who remains at large after a violent incident in Sandy Hill last month.

Three people are facing charges including one man who remains at large after a violent incident in Sandy Hill last month.

The Ottawa police human trafficking unit is leading the investigation, which began May 24 after an alleged violent assaultin an apartment on the 1-100 block of Daly Avenue, between Nicholas and Cumberland streets.

The accused persons are:

  • A 23-year-old Ottawa man,charged with human trafficking, receiving a financial benefit from human trafficking, assault causing bodily harm, uttering threats and eight counts of assault.
  • A 24-year-old Ottawa woman, charged with aggravated assault.
  • A 21-year-old Ottawa man, charged with sexual assault with a weapon, two counts of assault with a weapon, aggravated assault, failure to comply with release conditionsand eight firearms-related offences. He is wanted by police.

The wanted suspect is described as a black man, six feet tall, about 205 pounds, with a medium build. He has medium-lengthcurly hair, possibly braided, and a beard.
