Jabeir Jemmie dead after stabbing outside Elgin Street bars

Ottawa police say a 21-year-old man stabbed outside The Standard and The Living Room bars has died from his injuries. Neighbours and family confirmed the victim is Jabeir Jemmie.

A 21-year-old man has died after he was stabbed in the stomach outside an Elgin Street bar, police say.

Police and paramedics responded to a report of a man stabbed at about 2:35 a.m. Saturday in front of 360ElginSt., an address shared by two barsThe Standard and Living Room.

Paramedics said the man was stabbed in the stomach and he lost his pulse on the way to hospital. Paramedics tried to resuscitate him and doctor tried to perform emergency surgery.

However, police said the victim died Saturday morning and they have begun a homicide investigation.

On Saturday, neighbours and family confirmed the victim was Jabeir Jemmie. One neighbour said they werein "a state of shock."

Fight started in bar, continued outside

Police sources also said the victim was involved in a fight inside The Living Room bar and was "very drunk" before he was kicked out of the bar. The man then became involved in a fight along ElginStreet soon after, sources said.

The polices major crimes unit is leading the investigationand they closed Frank Street west of Elgin and Jack Purcell Lane between Waverley Street and Elgin.

This is Ottawa's fourth homicide of 2014. There were no arrests or suspects in the case.

In May, a man was denied entry into The Living Room bar, which led to a confrontation with bouncers. The man unloaded 10 gun shots at the bouncers as they left for the night from the club's back door, police said at the time.

Nobody was injured in that case.
