Inside the Kingston Penitentiary in 1981

As the notorious former Kingston Penitentiary is set to open up for public tours in June, we take a look at archival footage from inside the prison more than 30 years ago.

The maximum-security prison shut down in September 2013, after nearly 180 years in operation.

Some of Canada's most infamous inmates were housed in the prison, including murderer and rapist Paul Bernardo and child killer Clifford Olson.

Its door will open to the public for tours in mid-June until late October.
